The Eagle Spirit Curriculum
Traditional - Our State of the Art Traditional curriculum will provide you with the basic, intermediate and advanced skills necessary to master every rank from White belt to Black belt. Every student that Joins ESA will learn how "Poomse" (forms) will develop their coordination, power, and balance. This in turn will also prepare the student for more advanced concepts and techniques.

Self Defense - You will learn all of the basic, intermediate and advanced concepts of wrist locks, joint locks, trapping techniques, falls, rolls, shoulder and hip throws. We will teach you simple, yet applicable techniques that will help you escape from choke holds, bear hugs, lapel grabs, single and double wrist grabs and more! At the advanced levels you will learn "street smart" concepts that will prevent you from being in a vulnerable situation. You will learn how to incorporate life-saving kicks and strides into your self-defense as well as how to defend against the use of many types of weapons. Of the utmost importance, you will learn how and when to discern the use of such techniques. All of our self-defense classes are taught with hands-on instruction, guiding you through the simple yet intricate movements necessary for fluid and continuous motions, helping you to master the techniques.

Competition Sparring - With many National and Junior National Champions making their start at Eagle Spirit Academy, we can provide you with the most elite training necessary to spar at the International and World level. Learn step-drills, paddle drills and hogu-drills, while learning the strategies necessary to out-play your opponent. In our conditioning classes, you will learn the importance of plyometrics, resistance (rip-cord) and core stabilization training. You will also learn distance running as well as short track work and stair & step drills. Our medicine ball workouts will develop upper body strength and coordination that will improve your punching power in the ring. Everything from proper diet, fluid, and rest, to gaining and cutting weight the correct way, will be some of the concepts learned in these classes. There will be many opportunities of one-on-one sparring with players within your same weight class, as well as round robin sparring with players of different weights and sizes as the student progresses in rank.

Creative and Musical - Augment and enhance your basic, intermediate and advanced techniques by creating your own forms. The addition of music will also allow your creativity and individuality to showcase itself. These classes are fun and allow for each individual, regardless of level, to take their training to another level. Music with appropriate lyrics and appropriate types of doboks and costumes, allow for the choreography and creativity to show the artistry and beauty of Taekwondo. This is a wonderful way to get ready for demos and competitions. Use of weapons and props may also be included in Creative and Musical routines.
Point Sparring - These classes will require the student to obtain additional hand and foot sparring equipment since there will be hand contact to the face and head. Controlled, contact point sparring teaches the student how to defend and attack with their hands as well as their legs. You will learn how to trap, block and tie up four opponent while countering and scoring. Point sparring will teach you precision, control and accuracy while helping the balance coordination and flexibility needed to be successful at competitive sparring. Point sparring is fun and exciting and will definitely improve your speed, and quickness. You will also learn how to referee and score point sparring matches.

Weapons - Apart from Black belts, all weapons classes will be taught on a seminar basis only. At various times during the year, we will offer basic bo-staff classes that will teach you the beginning fundamentals of defending and striking with a long staff. This class will also require the student to purchase a wooden staff and will also require the student to be an advanced Taekwondo player of 2nd gup (Red belt) or higher. These classes are designed to augment the training of a dedicated Taekwondo student one that will understand that the weaponry is an extension of your body, which requires the student to maintain the highest level of proficiency in their basic fundamentals.

Character Skills - An important part of your Taekwondo training is the development of character skills. Through repetition of basic Taekwondo fundamentals, the student begins to learn how to apply the Tenets of Taekwondo to their daily lives. Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit are the building blocks. A student then learns the importance of Responsibility, Accountability and Consequences. A long-term dedicated Taekwondo player will learn the difference between discipline and self-discipline and will be able to develop a true feeling of Self-Esteem and Self-Worth. At Eagle spirit Academy, we believe that Every Student Aspires to become a better person through their training. Each student at ESA will develop a genuine sense of self-worth by learning to persist until they achieve goals, and completing their tasks. They will learn that the final product of their efforts will be determined by the commitment and hard work that they invest into their particular task. All students will learn to become leaders, role models, and mentors for their peers.

The Demonstration, Leadership, and Competition Teams - At ESA we believe that every student needs an outlet to discover their self-actualization: the means by which a student can compare what they know to someone of their equal gender, rank, weight, etc. Competitions and membership into our Demonstration, Leadership, and Competition Teams can help achieve this. For a student to be considered for any of the our Teams requires "good standing," at home and school as well as be consistent in their weekly training. Some teams will require the student to sign a contract and will be subject to extra fees.

Private and Semi-Private Lessons - Individual private lessons are offered at a competitive hourly rate per hour per person. You should arrive and stretch 20 minutes prior to your private lesson so that the full hour can be dedicated to your needs. Private sessions will be held at the ESA Training Studio only.
